The Katsina State Government says it has begun the process of establishing a refinery in collaboration with an oil company.

The development, according to Commissioner for Commerce in the state, Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf, was part of efforts by the Governor Aminu Bello Masari’s administration to industrialise the area.

Yusuf spoke, on Sunday, when the Governor commissioned Vinyl tube and PVC production lines at the Kankia Metal Works in Kankia Local Government Area of the state.

According to the commissioner, hectares of land had already been approved at Mashi for the project, adding that, “All stakeholders are working round the clock to reach this important industrial destination.”

He listed the resuscitation of the Daura Tanners Project, the Danja Sugar factory as well as the meat factory at Misra, near Dog on Hawa, as part of projects meant to transforming Katsina State.

According to him, “Undoubtedly, Katsina State is blessed with human and noon-human resources to attain the desired sustainable development in the areas of agriculture, mining, manufacturing, construction and general commercial undertakings.

“We have resources of comparative and competitive advantages to make autonomous and independent state in the Nigerian federation with less dependence federal allocations.

“The intended industrial journey will assist in jobs, income and wealth creation, boosting of internally generated revenue, improving foreign exchange earnings and its conservation as well as further enhancement of the overall investment in the state.”

Yusuf noted that the Kankia Metal Works factory was leased by government to Ampri Global Limited in 2016 and that the company has since added additional production lines for the assembly of tricycles and motorcycles apart from the vinyl tube and PVC production lines.
