GOVERNORS elected under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) have reiterated their endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari for next year’s presidential election.
The governors met with the president at the presidential villa, Abuja on Tuesday night where they reassured him of their support for his re-election bid.
The president had already told the party hierarchy that he would be seeking a second tenure.
Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC) and Imo state Governor, Rochas Okorocha, disclosed the endorsement after the meeting which took place at the First Lady Wing of the presidential villa.
He said: “We came to welcome him back and to commend him for his boldness and courage to declare his intention to run for second term as president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which we the 24 governors of the APC duly support.
“And we have come to encourage him that he must go ahead with his vision to rescue Nigeria from its present challenges.”
The meeting also deliberated on the forthcoming national convention of the ruling party with Okorocha revealing its resolve to support a strong national chairman
Presidency source revealed on Tuesday night that Buhari had already urged the governors to support former Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, for the post.
Okorocha said: “We also agreed that we will not allow the issue of many contestants to destroy our party,”
But he denied that the meeting was called solely to endorse Oshiomhole, saying that the governors will soon make their stance known on the matter just as he added that the governors are keen on having a hitch-free convention.
