Kogi-born young comedian and President of Nigeria Grassroots Entertainers, Ogbe Reuben Walter (aka MC Walter) has called on government at all levels in Nigeria to invest in the entertainment industry as the revenue from the sector far outweighs that from the oil sector.
Walter who made the call while addressing journalists in Lokoja, maintained that the era when comedians and other artistes in the entertainment industry were looked down upon was far gone, describing the industry as “money spinner”.
Walter disclosed that as a fall out of his recent emergence as the President of Nigeria Grassroots Entertainer in Northern Nigeria, Hillstone Inc., an American organization, has donated four international standard recording studios to Kogi state government for use by grassroots entertainers.
He described lack of enabling environment and support for those in the entertainment industry as major challenge bedevilling the sector.
He said as part of his efforts aimed at repositioning the grassroots entertainment sector, he intends to tour the nineteen northern states of Nigeria to register entertainers under the umbrella of the Nigeria Grassroots Entertainers.
Walter emerged as the President of Nigeria Grassroots Entertainers on October 20, 2018 and would oversee the affairs of the organization for the next five years.
