As anticipated, the topic discussed last week on this page set the various portals alight with many queries. It is a hot topic any day and many of the views which people hold dear are not based on fact. Some say with all confidence that when you consume a lot of sugar, libido is affected. Others say that eating too many sweet things causes piles which in turn negatively affects libido. Neither one is correct. What is important to know is that there are certain attributes we acquire through our lifestyles that ultimately have important consequences on our libido.
We discussed some of those factors last week. Today, we shall take look at those factors which will help sustain and improve libido naturally without having recourse to drugs. As simple and commonplace as some of them may seem to be, many people deny themselves of their benefit simply by not engaging in those acts. As far as libido is concerned, there are very few events in the life of any couple that have a more profound impact on their compatibility and the level of happiness. The loss of libido in any marriage is a threat to its existence especially when the marriage is still young.
Libido, also known as the sex drive, is something which varies among individuals. That does not make it a bad thing as long as it is not perceived as being an obstacle to bringing happiness into that marriage. When any person then perceives a low libido as a problem, it will affect their outlook to life as a whole. Issues that cause anyone some degree of anxiety, difficulties in whatever kind of relationship one is in, be it work or matrimony or religion, that import on the life of the affected person constitutes some level of stress which can negatively affect the libido. As far as libido is concerned, there are very few events in the life of any couple that has a more profound impact on their compatibility and the level of happiness. A general state of unhappiness would similarly depress the sex drive. It is a problem that affects people of all ages and its negative consequences are found in the younger age groups.
The most important of these natural means of boosting the libido is to engage in foreplay. For many men, sex is no more than a conquest and the matter is appropriately done within a matter of minutes. However, many men with discernment know and understand the value of wooing their wives within the context of marriage by essentially doing all those things they used to do before they married. Some men believe that once a marriage has been consummated, there is no longer a need for romance: this attitude negatively impacts on the libido. For the former group of men, the wooing begins even in the morning with the exchange of sweet words and messages long before the close of work. The physical part of it continues when they arrive at home until the act is consummated. For that group of people, the positive vibrations engendered by hours of expectation and anticipation bring out the best during sex. Having better communication in this way may increase a person’s desire for sex. Couples who spend more time touching, kissing and holding hands have an improved desire for penetrative sex. This is of even more importance to women.
The other important factor as we talked about last week is to maintain a healthy weight. This is achievable through two different pathways: the first is to exercise more as a way of increasing muscle bulk and improving the heart’s function. These attributes improve the health of the heart and blood vessels which in turn guarantee the health of the vessels in the penis. The other technique for maintaining a healthy weight is to take more fruits. Vegetables are good also but fruits contain essentially the same substances. There should be no preference and any one that is in season can fulfill this role. This is of major importance when the effects of metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease are taken into consideration being two of the major health conditions that can negatively affect libido. In women, the onset of polycystic ovary disease affects hormone levels and can also affect their sex drive.
A diet that is rich in vegetables, low in sugar and fat and sprinkled with an abundant dose of lean plant protein is a bonus for improved libido because of the importance to the overall health of its component parts. In the main, a good attention to what we eat is not only important to the physical appearance that we end up displaying, it is of vital importance to other things in our body that determine whether we are happy individuals or not. A general state of affairs regarding libido is to say without equivocation that not having a high sexual drive is not a problem and should not be seen as one except when it adversely affects another person. Although problems with libido affect both sexes, it is the male preponderance of the terms of discussion that has given it some ascendancy over the female side of the discussion.
It is of great importance to stop smoking for those who do so. That is important for the simple reason that cigarette smoking has been known to cause a certain kind of inflammatory reaction within the tiny vessels of the body that cause them some damage. Such damage ultimately compromises their ability to supply oxygen and other nutrients to tissues especially in the lower limbs and the penis. With such tissue injury occurring over a period of time, there can be no limit to the eventual damage it would cause a structure like the penis. In the end, its ability to take in blood and retain it which is what happens during an erection is compromised. Erectile dysfunction sets it and a host of psychosocial problems follow. Alcohol is another compound that negatively affects the libido. It is a substance that unleashes the beast in man, encouraging them as it were, to act without any inhibitions. The reality, however, is that for all the drama and the braggadocio the sexual drive is actually diminished. Alcoholics have a low sexual drive. So if you avoid alcohol, not the obligatory red wine recommended to accompany your dinner, your sex drive will improve.
The last factor in improving the libido is the quality of sleep we get. The less you sleep, the more irritable you are and the more weight you are prone to put on. All these have dire implications for your cardiovascular health, the heart most importantly. When the heart is bad with sickness, sex is not that important.
