A Lagos magistrate’s court sitting in Ebute Meta on Friday ordered that a security guard, Usman Abdulkareem, be remanded at the Ikoyi Prison for allegedly killing his colleague.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs A. Kusanu, said the defendant would remain in prison custody pending the outcome of legal advice by the State Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
Abdulkareem, who is being tried for murder, was alleged to have hit his colleague, Augustine Musa, whom he accused of gossiping about him.
The Investigative Police Officer, ASP Gafar Oderinde, told the court that the accused committed the offence on December 18, at Dangote Oil Refinery, Idasho Town, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, around 9pm.
He said the offence contravened Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The magistrate, however, did not take the defendant’s plea after the charge was read to him.
She held that the defendant be kept in prison while the case file be forwarded to the DPP. The case was adjourned till January 30, 2019 for report of the DPP advice.
