A 70-year-old woman, Hauwa Usman of Old Garin Waziri in the Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State has been rescued from kidnappers.
The kidnappers have also been arrested and are now helping the police in their bid to unravel circumstances surrounding Hauwa’s kidnap.
The spokesman for Katsina Police Command, Gambo Isah, confirmed the development in Katsina on Saturday. He gave the names of the two arrested suspects as Abubakar Yusuf, 40 alias ‘Kango’ and Abubakar Mansur, 40 of Unguwar Gwanda, both of Safana Local Government Area of the state.
Isa added the old woman was able to identify the suspects after their arrest, adding that the duo had confessed to committing the crime.
Giving the detailed circumstances surrounding the rescue of the septuagenarian and the arrest of the two suspects, the police spokesperson said, “On January 9, 2019 at about 14:00hrs, based on a tip off, the command succeeded in arresting the duo of one Abubakar Yusuf, alias “Kango”, male, aged 40 of Safana and Abubakar Mansur, male, aged 40 of Unguwar Gwanda, Safana LGA of Katsina who kidnapped one Hauwa Usman, female, aged 70 of Old Garin Waziri, Safana LGA of Katsina State.
“The victim has identified the hoodlums as those that kidnapped her. Also, the suspects confessed to the commission of committing the offence. Investigation is ongoing.”
In a related development, a Toyota Highlander snatched at gunpoint in Jos, Plateau State capital, had been recovered in Katsina State while being driven to Niger Republic for sale.
The vehicle with registration number ABC 572 RN, has JTEEP21A560186921 as its chassis number.
A 28-year-old suspect, Muhammed Sani of Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State found in possession of the vehicle, is already in police net in Katsina.
The police said Sani confessed that he and other members of his gang still at large snatched the vehicle at gunpoint in Jos.
Isah confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday.
