The newly posted Commissioner of Police to Kwara State, Mr Kayode Egbetokun on Sunday assumed office at the state Police Headquarters, promising to perform his duties diligently with fairness to all political parties in the state in the forthcoming elections.
Egbetokun whose posting to Kwara State had been greeted with protests by women and youths as well as members of political parties sympathetic to the ruling PDP in the state, told journalists that “I’m here to provide a level playing ground to all contestants in the forthcoming elections in the state.”
Addressing a press conference in Ilorin, Egbetokun said, “No matter where I have worked, it doesn’t change my figure. I’m in Kwara State to do my duties and I will do it diligently without fear or favour.
“Police is a function of the society; we need a police system that is intelligent based and technology driven.
“I’m committed to human rights and respect for the rule of law. Those who have no skeleton in their cupboard need not exercise any fear, but criminals in the state will not have their way. I will advise them to either change their path or leave the state, “ he counselled.
Answering questions on the protests being staged against his posting to Kwara State, Egbetokun said, “Protest is part of human rights and I’m not against protest as long it is peaceful; I will give you protection.
“Before my posting to Kwara State, I was at the Police Headquarters in Abuja preparing for the general elections and held a meeting with the heads of Explosive Ordinance department from all the state police commands. I’m satisfied with the preparations made by the Kwara State Command.”
