At least six persons have been reportedly killed in a renewed clash between community youths in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
Sources told our correspondent that the incident took place in the early hours of Monday around Dumoruogbo, Dumurieh, Orumaroh and Jakpa Junction area of Effurun.
The clash which broke out in the area since last two weeks following disagreements between some supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress, it was learnt to have escalated into clashes between cultists and community leaders in the area.
It was learnt that the victims were killed at different spots in the area bringing the total number of those killed in the renewed crises to about ten in the last two weeks.
Sources told our correspondent that three of the victims were shot dead in their homes while the remaining three were stabbed and cut with an ax to death by yet to be identified youths in the area.
As of the time of filing this report, soldiers and mobile policemen have been deployed in the area to quell the clashes.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Aniamaka, confirmed the incident but claimed five persons were killed in the clash.
He also debunked claims that security operatives were involved in the killings.
“I was informed that five persons were killed in the clash. There’s no iota of truth in the allegation that security operatives were involved in the killing. They are only there to maintain peace, and they won’t be involved in any form of extrajudicial killing,” Aniamaka stated.
