A Kano based Non-Governmental Organization, Kano Peace and Development Initiative (KAPEDI), has appealed to the people of Kano to remain calm and wait patiently to the logical conclusion of the electoral process.
The association said it has noticed that there was tension and apprehension across the state following the slow pace of the collation and the subsequent delay in the announcement of the result.
In a statement issued, the Secretary of the association, Malam Garba Aliyu Gezawa, said “We have noticed that the elections held on the 9th of March, 2019, were conducted under peaceful atmosphere across the state.
“We thank the people of Kano state for their commitment in discharging their civic responsibility by electing leaders that will take the helm of affairs of the state.” he said.
However, the associations said there were contradicting and in most cases fake news making the round especially on social media which tended to plunge the state into confusion.
“We therefore appeal to our politicians and their respective political parties to remain calm and abide by the peace accord that they have all agreed to and adopt legal means of seeking redress in the event they are not satisfied with the outcome of the elections,” the statement read in part.
The association then appealed to the youths not to allow themselves to be used by anyone whose intention is to disturb public peace.
The Association then expressed satisfaction with the way the security agencies handled the situation and commended them for their display of professionalism during the period and urged them to maintain the tempo.
