A community leader told Southern City News that after apprehending the suspect, the police also invaded the Umuna community in the Onuimo Local Government Area of the state and were arresting the residents indiscriminately.
Our correspondent got to know that the incident has created panic in the community. So, the community leader expressed concern at the mass arrest and said that apart from apprehending innocent people, the police were also extorting money from those picked up.
He said, “The police have invaded my community and the compound of the boy, who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death and arrested everybody in sight; they even destroyed doors by kicking them down. “I have asked my younger brother to speak on their behalf and provide legal representation to those arrested, while I thought it wise to let you know of this development.”
When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, said the suspect was still in custody, adding that he was not aware of the indiscriminate arrest of people in the said community by police operatives.
