President Muhammadu Buhari Saturday in Dutsinma, Katsina State, vowed to ensure that katsina state is free from Banditry and kidnapping attacks, so that its citizens can move about without fear or intimidation
Buhari who is the visitor to Federal University, Dutsinma, made the vow at the varsity’s fourth convocation ceremony, held at the temporary site of the university.
He maintained that the war against banditry and criminality involves several covert security operations not easily accessible by the citizens; hence the need to reassure the citizens of Katsina State that something urgently is being done to address their plight
Represented at the ceremony by a former Deputy governor of katsina State, Professor Hafiz Abubakar, the President also reiterated that the federal government will continue to rescue the State and other states of the federation from the climate of fear being orchestrated by the bandits
He said ’’I want to assure the people of katsina state that the federal government will rescue them as well as other states from banditry and kidnapping,’’
‘’we are bent on subduing the situation, and creating the enabling environment for lawfully abiding citizens to go about their legitimate business without fear or molestation’’
He assured that the Federal Government had embarked on a number of programmes such as ‘NPower’ and the ‘trader_moni’ programmes as well as Sundry Agricultural loans for the youths to start businesses of their own.
He noted tha his administration is fully aware of the challenges confronting all sectors of the economy especially the education sector, adding that government is doing everything possible to improve structures and facilities in the Nigerian institutions and to train the required manpower through the various TETFUND intervention programmes.
Governor Aminu Masari of katsina state led several dignitaries including the representative of the President, the Pro- Chancellor, Chancellor and the Vice Chancellor of the University to the Convocation Ceremony.
A total of 430 students from 29 departments of six faculties, graduated at the ceremony, out of which 24 bagged First Class,, 181 Second Class ( Upper Division), 178 Second Class (Lower Division) and 47 Third Class degrees respectively
The Chancellor of the University, His Majesty, King Dandeson Amanyanabo otherwise known as the Natural Ruler of Opobo Kingdom told the visitor that the University requires urgent support in the areas of provision of adequate security, water, power, hostel accommodation, road networks, laboratory and ICT equipment at the main campus.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Adamu Buba Kutigi, thanked the Katsina state Government for the financial and material support to the university
