Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, on Thursday, presented a cheque for N6m to the family of the late Elozino Ogege, who was murdered by ritual killers in the state.
Elozino a 300-level student of Mass Communication, Delta State University, Abraka, was murdered by a group of ritual killers known as ‘Yahoo plus’ on November 15, 2018, four days after she was declared missing.
Okowa, during the presentation of the cheque as financial assistance to the family, said the murderers must be brought to justice.
He decried the incidents that led to her murder and gave an assurance that no stone would be left unturned in ensuring that the perpetuators were brought to justice.
“This tells us that all is not well in our society,” Okowa said.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, David Edevbie, the governor promised that the government would continue to put in place measures to tackle the security challenges facing the state.
He stressed that what happened to Elozino last year was unfortunate and heartbreaking.
Mrs Elizabeth Ogege and Rev. John Aruakpor, Bishop of the Diocese of Oleh, Anglican Communion, on behalf of the family, thanked Okowa for the compassion shown to the family of the deceased and called on the government to put more initiatives in place to tackle insecurity in the state.
