The Delta State Police Command has arrested a prominent chief and a 32-year-old man in the state for the murder of a teenager.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, who disclosed this on Sunday in Asaba, said on June 18, 2019, a sack containing a lifeless body of an 18-year-old girl was found in a heap of refuse in Abraka in the Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.
She said, “On inspection of the corpse by the police, marks of violence were obvious on the deceased’s neck, which implied that she could have been killed by unknown person or persons.
“Subsequently, in the course of police investigation, the deceased’s male friend, one Henry Ikechukwu, 32, who was last seen with the deceased on June 17, 2019, and had been on the run since the incident, was tracked down and arrested on June 28, 2019.”
The PPRO said upon interrogation, Ikechukwu confessed to have invited the deceased for an outing on June 17, 2019, from where he lured her and handed her over to a prominent chief in the Abraka community, who allegedly gave him the assignment to get the deceased for him.
According to Onovwakpoyeya, the said chief has also been arrested and the two suspects are presently in police custody.
She stated that the suspects would soon appear in court after the completion of investigation.
Similarly, the PPRO said a girl of about 10 years old was defiled by a 58-year-old man in Eku, while another two-year-old girl was molested by a 52-year-old man at Ovwian Aladja, Warri.
She added that the two suspects had also been arrested and were currently in custody.
“It is disturbing that two cases of defilement of minors were recorded within the space of three weeks.”
Therefore, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Adeyinka Adeleke, hereby wishes to use this medium to advice parents to keep close watch on their underage female children to avoid them falling victims,” she said.
