Former Super Eagles midfielder, Garba Lawal, believes that Wednesday’s 2-1 win against South Africa is evidence that the Nigerian side have moved on from their 2-0 defeat to Madagascar in the last fixture of their Group B match.
He stressed that it is something Nigerians should celebrate because it came when the team still had the chance and time to reflect on their mistakes.
Speaking with Sports Extra, Lawal said, “No one expected Madagascar to beat Nigeria and they did. The Madagascar defeat was a blessing in disguise, if they had lost to Egypt or Algeria they wouldn’t have felt so embarrassed but losing to a team like Madagascar was more like a reality check for them. The Eagles should be prepared to face any opponent to be champions,” he said.
On the performance of the Eagles, the former Roda JC player said, “Football is all about winning and as a manager you want to win the championship, and to achieve that you need to win every game with the right attitude. I believe that Nigeria are on the course this moment to win the AFCON title.”
