The two kidnapped officers were identified as Francis Okunwe, who is the area commander of the Edo North Area Command and an assistant corps of the NSCDC; and the Divisional Officer of Irrua, Chief Superintendent of Corps, Albert Eguavoen.
They were kidnapped on their way to Benin.
The NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Efosa Ogbebor, said, “It is an unfortunate situation but we have deployed our men to comb the forest and ensure that two of them are released unhurt.”
Edo State Commissioner of Police, Danmallam Mohammed, confirmed the incident and said a combined operation of security agencies in the state was being put in place to apprehend the abductors.
As of the time of filing this report, no one could confirm if the kidnappers had contacted the family of the victims.
Eyewitness account said the kidnapping occurred around 2 pm on Friday and sources from Edo North added that the Toyota Sienna van they were travelling in had been recovered from where it was abandoned.
