The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Shamshideen Salihu, for allegedly defiling a 10-year-old girl at the Buyinko Junior Quarter Maikunkele in the Bosso Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect was arrested by a team of policemen from the Maikunkele Division following a tip-off.
It was learnt that Salihu sneaked into the family home of the little girl when the parents were away and had unlawful carnal knowledge of his victim.
He thereafter left the vicinity to avoid being linked to the incident.
Northern City News gathered on Thursday that when the mother of the victim, Amina Nuhu, returned home, she noticed that her daughter was not her normal self and was walking with great difficulty.
This raised her suspicion and she examined the little girl’s private parts and noticed that blood was coming out, which made her to raise the alarm that attracted neighbours.
The victim identified the suspect, who was reported to the police and arrested before the girl was rushed to hospital near the Maikunkele Police Station.
According to neighbours, the girl’s private parts were stitched before she was discharged.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect had confessed to the crime.
He said the suspect would be arraigned in court as soon as investigation was completed.
