The police in Katsina State have arrested three suspected kidnappers in the Unguwar Illiya village in the Kafur Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, Umar Audu, 20; Yusuf Abubakar, 25; and Ussaini Isah, 30, are from the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The spokesman for the Katsina State Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the arrest of the suspects on Monday.
Isah stated that the trio were arrested where they had gone to pick the N150,000 ransom they demanded from one Shu’aibu Bala, whom they threatened to kidnap in addition to any member of his family if he refused to pay the money.
Isah said, “On November 29, 2019, one Shu’aibu Bala, 36, of the Gozaki village, Kafur LGA of Katsina State, reported at the Kafur Division that he had been receiving threat messages through phone calls asking him to pay the sum of N150,000 or he or any member of his family risked being kidnapped by the callers.
“Consequently, on December 4, 2019, around 5pm, the Operation Puff Adder, led by the DPO, Kafur Division, succeeded in smashing the syndicate at the Unguwar Iliya village of Kafur LGA of Katsina State, when they went to collect the ransom of N150,000 demanded.”
