Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has commended Christian pilgrims for their conduct during the 2019 general pilgrimage.
Speaking during the 2019 General Pilgrimage Thanksgiving Service held on Wednesday in Lagos, Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Tayo Ayinde, said the commendation was necessary because the pilgrims successfully completed the spiritual exercise without any hitch.
He said, “The gathering of different Christian backgrounds to the Holy land shows that we are one in Christ and the offering of thanksgiving shows that you have performed your vow to God.
“The Lagos State Government appreciates the patronage of the Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, the Ministry of Home Affairs and all the pilgrims for the way you conducted yourselves throughout the journey in the holy land.”
In his address, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Mr. Anofiu Olanrewaju – Elegushi, said, “The journey to the holy land of Jerusalem entails spiritual transformation. It is a unique religious exercise that transforms the heart and mind.”
He urged the pilgrims to have a rebirth and to always practise what they learned in the Holy land.
Delivering a sermon on the theme, ‘He has done great things’, Pastor Adekoya Olugbenga, urged the pilgrims to learn how to appreciate and give gratitude to God so as to propel Him to do more.
He said, “No matter the situation in your life, praise Him and He will do it. Do not be discouraged by your situation; just praise Him because you are created for His praise.”
Also, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Mrs Elizabeth Adekanye, encouraged the pilgrims to be the testimonials of the Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board.
“Speak about us, tell others what you saw. Tell them how it went as our ambassadors,” she said.
