Zamfara State Police Command has warned the administrators of Islamiyya Schools in the state to immediately close them or face the wrath of the law.
Similarly, the command advised parents and guardians whose children were attending the schools to withdraw them in the time being as the nation grapples with the coronavirus pandemic.
In a statement, the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Mohammed Shehu, said despite the persistent enlightenment campaign by the command and other various government committees on coronavirus, most of the Almajiri Schools especially within Gusau metropolitan area are still operating.
SP Shehu said it was a violation of the state government’s order on COVID-19.
He said, “These Almajiri Schools are mostly located in Damba, Mareri, Filin Jirgi, Kwango Road, Premier Road, Sabuwar Hanya Tudun Wada, Hayin Buba, Zawuyya, Kofar Jange, Albarka, Tulkukawa, Birnin Ruwa, Tsunami Gangaren Kwata, Gada Biyu, Marna Tsakar Gari, Marnar Talika, Talikawa areas of Gusau city.”
The PUNCH reports that the command on March 23 banned all forms of public gathering, meetings, and procession by whatever means including Almajiri Schools as directed by the state government.
Police Commissioner in the state, CP Usman Nagogo, enjoined the public to cooperate with police and other security operatives to enable the country effectively combat coronavirus.
