Speaking to our correspondent, one of the commuters, Mr Emmanuel Adakole, decried the increase in the transport fare.
He said, “The government has done well by asking all motorists to reduce the number of passengers they convey in order to observe the social distancing policy, but the drivers took advantage of the COVID-19 and increased the transport fare which was initially N600 from Lafia to Makurdi. It is now N900.”
Also, a driver on the Makurdi-Lafia road, Mr Vincent Tachia, said it was not easy for them as the motor park was congested due to the directive.
He said, “We have been collapsed in one place and there is no space to pack our vehicles. Government should find a way of decongesting the park because the matter of social distancing is not there anymore.”
The state Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Mr Salihu Adamu said the union had complied with the directives of the state government.
