The Nigerian Army has arrested the soldiers who were alleged to have flogged a woman and allegedly shave some youths in the streets of Beere, a community in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
In a video that went viral, the soldiers were seen chorusing ‘End SARS’ and also flogging a woman sitting on the floor over the term 'indecent dressing'.
However, the Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Seun Fakorede, speaking on the unethical conduct, assured that the personnel have been arrested and will be dealt with. He said, tweeting,
“My ears are full of news of the unlawful activities of some soldiers of the Nigerian Army, over the weekend.
“I have immediately reached out to the Commandant of the Operation Burst and I’ve been assured that the men involved in this distasteful operation have been arrested and taken to the barracks — they will be dealt with accordingly. This will not repeat itself again in Oyo State.”
A guy recounting his ordeal explained that he was also beaten and after being exhorted, shaved his hair with a pair of scissors by the soldiers.
He said, “They said I should take off my cap and when I did so, they flogged me and asked me to kneel down. When I asked what my crime was, he ordered me to sit down and then brought out a pair of scissors from his pocket.
“The funny thing was that they collected money from us for the haircut.”
In conclusion to the Youths Commissioner, he tweeted that the community members should return to their businesses. He wrote,
“Please, kindly go about your daily business and activities without fear. Thank you.”
