A deadly symptoms yet to confirmed it disease hospitalised five, killed 11 persons in the Local Government Area of Lagelu in Oyo State.
Though the symptoms was alleged to be Cholera Outbreak but result samples haven't been given and four of the five victims have been discharged.
According to the residents of the community, the first case was recorded at Ariku village but the disease later spread to Lagun village in which six persons were confirmed dead.
The Caretaker Chairman, Lagelu Local Government Area, Mr Kelani Abdullahi, confirming the outbreak said, “So far, 11 persons have lost their lives to the epidemic, with five persons hospitalised while four persons have been discharged.”
But the Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr Bashiru Bello, said the outbreak hasn't been confirmed to be Cholera and it could be attributed to poor hygiene and unhygienic environment.
Bello said, “The tests carried out on the affected persons are still premature and the samples collected have not confirmed the sickness to be cholera.”
However, the lawmaker representing Lagelu State Constituency, Mr Akintunde Olajide, give it that the strange sickness was due to lack of access to clean and water and ordered the repair of three of the four boreholes in the communities.
