Suspected armed robbers on Monday attacked the divisional police headquarters at Igieben, Edo State, carting away arms and ammunition and injuring two policemen.
Arms and ammunition at the Edo divisional police headquarters at Igieben, was carted away after some armed robbers invaded the station.
Though the police officers mobilized to repel the attack, two police personnel were injured while they succeeded in gunning one of the armed robbers down.
According to reports, the invaders made the attack around 8pm throwing suspected locally-made dynamite in order to gain access into the Igueben police station.
The armed men however headed for the arsenal, where the arms and ammunition were stolen.
Confirming the attack, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, said, “On November 9, 2020 around 7.30pm, hoodlums suspected to be armed robbers invaded the police station at Igueben. Immediately, police personnel were mobilised to repel them.
“During the gun duel, one of the suspected armed robbers was shot dead. Two policemen were wounded and they were taken to the hospital. One motorcycle, suspected to belong to the robbers, was confiscated by the police. No policeman was killed in the attack.”
The youths in the community took to the streets to protest, calling on the government to investigate the attack.
