Four suspected armed robbers who fled from the Oviere community, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, were shot dead.
They were said to have been shot by a joint security surveillance initiated by vigilantes and personnel of the state police command
It was gathered that the robbers after successfully robbing some residents of the area on Friday, was engaged in a gun duel with the security team that lasted over 30 minutes.
The surveillance team was able to gun down four members of the eight-man gang, while other members of the gang escaped from the scene.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, who confirmed the incident on Monday, explained that the robbers were operating in Oviere and Ovu communities when they were challenged.
Some weapons were recovered from the deceased, including two locally-made guns and a tricycle used for the operations.
