A woman and three teenagers appeared before the Ado Ekiti Magistrates’ Court in Ekiti State on Tuesday over alleged burglary, stealing household and personal items and receiving stolen items.
One of the suspects, Chioma Chijioke, 31, and the teenagers aged between 15 and 16.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Oriyomi Akinwale, the suspects committed the offences on October 2, 2020 at Ilupeju Ekiti in the Oye Local Government area the state.
The prosecutor stated that the teenagers illegally looted the shop of one Blessing Ayeni and stole 15 bags of rice and a 25-litre keg of palm oil, all valued at N500,000.
Akinwale also alleged that the teenagers also stole ladies’ weave-on hair and body cream from the shop valued at N50,000 adding that the teenagers sold the goods to Chijioke.
They were arraigned for receiving stolen property.
He said, “The offences contravene sections 516 and 411(2) of the Criminal Code, Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.”
Their counsel, Mr Adefolaju Ayobioloja, applied for their bail on liberal terms, promising that they would not jump bail.
But the court did not take the plea of the defendants.
The Court Magistrate, Owoleso Olarewaju granted the defendants on bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each.
One of the sureties must be a civil servant on Grade Level 10 and must have a landed property within the jurisdiction of the court.
The magistrate then adjourned the case till December 15, 2020 for further hearing.
