Abuja Court Martial on Monday convicted the former Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj. Gen. Olusegun Adeniyi.
Adeniyi was found guilty of violating military social media guidelines and the tribunal ordered his demotion by at least three years.
The Commander’s aide, Private Tokunbo Obanla, was also prosecuted alongside Adeniyi, as he was found guilty and sentenced to 28 days in jail with hard labour.
The sentence is to be confirmed by the military authorities.
The general however pleaded guilty to three-count of unlawful use of social media, and damage to service property amongst other.
Eight months ago, a video emerged online revealing how Adeniyi was complaining about the lack of military equipment to tackle Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East.
The Commander was also seen complaining that insurgents were exceeding troops, adding that intelligence failure was responsible for the attack by the insurgents that claimed army of soldiers.
Due to this, the major-general was removed from the front and also suspended by the military authorities.
The Nigerian Army later filed charges against him for military social media guideline violations.
