A married couple for 72 years died a few hours apart and buried on Friday in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.
The couple, Papa Israel Akojede and Mama Esther Akojede, who died on October 30, 2020 at Gbonagun in the Obantoko area of Abeokuta, was buried at the Apostolic Faith Church Cemetery, Ijeja, Abeokuta on Friday.
The wife, 98 years old died few hours after she received the news of her husband’s death who was 103.
Rev. Folorunsho Ajayi, during his sermon at the funeral service of the couple held at Apostolic Faith Church, Ogun Regional Headquarters, Abeokuta, urged couples to pray together always and believe in each other.
Ajayi, who was the regional Overseer of the church, noted in different Bible chapters he read during his sermon, that salvation was precious, adding that one must work hard and follow God’s rule to secure it.
He specifically called on women to be virtuous, truthful and always have respect for their husbands, noting that was one of the major ways to make heaven.
The eldest child, Mr Joseph Akojede, who described his parents as loving, caring and prayerful said, “They were both great in life and in death. They were parents to all. They both exhibited a parental care and were friendly to all.”
The first grandson, Olanrewaju Akojede, stated that he was grateful for the love and support he received from the loving couple.
He added that their love and prayers were the driving force behind everything he did.
He said, “They are so great parents who lived a pleasant and worthy life that is worth emulating. I am happy knowing that they are finally resting peacefully in heaven.”
