The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered tight security positioning and energetic high visibility patrols across the country to secure peaceful Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The order was issued to all the Assistant Inspector-General of Police and Commissioners of Police in charge of zonal and state commands nationwide.
The IGP also ordered the strategic officers to ensure massive deployment of intelligence and other operational assets of the police specifically in major highways, airports, railway stations, recreational centres, motor parks, places of worship, financial institutions, etc.
Utmost professionalism was also required in discharging the duty.
The IGP also warned against acts of indiscipline, extortion, and intimidation of travellers and other road users by security operatives.
He then advised Nigerians to take preventive measures to reduce exposure to security risks and the ravaging COVID-19 during the festive period.
Mohammed in conclusion congratulated Christian faithful celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ and appreciated Nigerians for supporting the police and other security agencies in the fight against crimes.
